Writers' House of Dubulti Jurmala,
Latvia
The
writers' hotel in Dubulti is a quiet place for creative work. The house, renovated
in 2000, is situated in the Latvian most famous seaside resort town - Jurmala,
not far from train station "Dubulti" on Akas str. 4, {15 km from Riga
airport). It takes about 30 minutes by train or bus to go there from the center
of Riga. The hotel
is situated in a small, quiet park in a seaside resort town. It takes just 100
metres to the Baltic Sea and its pine trees and sandy dunes. On the opposite side
- 100 metres to the Lielupe, one of the biggest rivers in Latvia. Important objects
near hotel - 350 metres to jugend style church of Jurmala built in the beginning
of 20th century, 30 metres to the "House of Tales", hosted by phantasy
and ancient culture community, which organises lectures, concerts, medieval fights
and pottery courses in their house. Within
the house there are 5 single rooms. 6 two room suites and self-service kitchen
dining room. There is also a small hall that can be used as a conference hall for
no more than 20 people. There are no technical equipment like computers and Internet
available at the moment. Prices
are lower than in Jurmala hotels, but in similarity with others there are different
prices for winter and summer seasons: single rooms - 15 Lat or 25 Lat a day,
two room suites - 25 Lat or 40 Lat a day. Writers'

Writers' and Translators' House Kasmu, Estonia
Is
located 78 km to the east of Tallinn in Kasmu, a village in Lahemaa National Park,
once populated by fishermen and shipbuilders. Since September 1997 the Centre
has been housed in the freshly renovated "captain's house" from the
beginning of former century, and is run by the Estonian Writers' Union. The
Centre consists of units incorporating a workroom, bedroom plus a bathroom and
toilet, four writers or translators staying at any one time. There is also a well-equipped
communal kitchen for self-catering, a dining room, a library and a sauna and a
telephone for the use of all guests. Each room is equipped with a PC computer
with Windows OP-system. Near the Centre are both a shop and a post-office and
there is a bus service providing connection with Tallinn twice a day. Kasmu
is a traditional summer holiday resort and is thus at its best (though not necessarily
at its quietest) during summertime. Those looking for peace and quietness for literary
pursuits will find the combination of the beauty of nature and the majesty of
the sea especially conductive to work all the year round, since the Centre is
open for all twelve months of the year. The prices are reasonable. We would like
to welcome writers and translators from around the Baltic sea to stay at the Centre.
Please arrange your stay well in advance with the Estonian Writers' Union. |
